Aspiring and experienced Australian playwrights are invited to submit unpublished and unperformed play scripts to the annual Carnival of Flowers Toowoomba Repertory Theatre Play Writing Competition.
Length 50 – 75 minutes
Professional feedback for shortlisted scripts
Professional-led dramaturgical review of winning scripts
Prizes: Best play $4000 Second $2000
Toowoomba Rep. has initiated this competition to foster and encourage new and experienced playwrights, whether amateur or professional. The play scripts will be judged anonymously by an experienced reading panel who will establish a short list. The shortlisted plays will then be evaluated by three industry professionals who will prepare written feedback to the playwrights on their scripts, as well as providing guidance for the selection of the two winners of our competition.
The two winning plays will undergo a six month review process led by a professional dramaturge appointed by the Rep Theatre. The intention is to provide input to the playwrights to assist in the further development of their scripts as needed and getting them to stage-readiness.
The winning plays will be performed each night during the 2018 Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers for a six night season. The two winning playwrights will be announced and cash prizes awarded on the final performance evening.
Competition Rules (including entry form) can be obtained by contacting the Convenor.
Entries need to be received by Saturday 30th September 2017.
Stage Presentation will take place on 24 to 29 September 2018
